Ensign James A. Hemstreet, ‘44, Navy

Correspondence between Gordon Fister, Acting Alumni Director, and James Hemstreet illustrates an abiding friendship and love for Muhlenberg. While serving in the Navy, letters from Hemstreet describe his latest accounts of the war from Europe and from the Pacific. Fister provides personal memories of Hemstreet in the Navy V-12 program on campus as well as notes of encouragement. Fister praises Hemstreet for providing a glimpses of the war and hints at the mounting correspondence that will eventually become an archived collection.
